Understanding Dark Self Taning Lotion

It is quite common for light skinned people to apply sunscreen products when attending outdoor events on a sunny day. If you stick to a diet rich in carotene compounds, with prolonged use the skin starts attaining an even darker tone. Compared to usage of a Dark Self Tanning Lotion, a natural hue will last for a longer period.

This could be attributed to the deep seated action of pigment elements introduced through ingestion. One must avoid excessive darkening as it could cut down the natural vitamin D synthesis process by up to 95%. As with most nutrient intakes, excessive consumption could lead to a condition known as carotenaemia if there is a lot of yellow pigment in blood.

Pills have also been developed for use by persons with the intent of darkening their skins. Beta carotene and canthaxanthin compounds are very popular as active ingredients in these tablets. The former is discouraged by consumer welfare groups due to undocumented side effects. Though harmful to the digestive system, canthaxanthin is approved for use in small amounts such as present in food colors.

One of the safest active ingredients in these cosmetic products is DHA. The compound is applied on the skin where it triggers a chemical reaction with amino acids deposited on the dead layer, resulting in a darker tone. The lotions do not contain any dyeing agents or pigments, so the color will naturally fade away in less than ten days.

Some commercial tanning products will carry a characteristic fragrance in addition to the active compounds. All asthmatic people should select cosmetic products that do not have fragrances that would trigger attacks. The endocrine system is also susceptible to damage from preservative agents such as paraben.

Some individuals may want to sport a very temporary tan rather than a lasting one. They are available either as sprays, emulsions or gels whose effect can be cleared by washing with soapy water. A shortcoming presents itself in the possibility of stain formation on clothing garments. If the application is not done by a professional, splotches may appear when one starts sweating.

A sunless tanner may darken your skin but this does not mean that you are protected from harm by ultraviolet rays. A dark hue does not necessarily mean that you have enough melanin to keep out the bad radiation. With some luck, one may come across a Dark Self Taning Lotion with sunscreen.
