Achieving The Best Out Of Your Airbrush Fake Tan

Few things can lift the spirit like a suntan does. It gives you healthy-looking skin, makes your white clothes look fantastic and can even make you look trimmer. However, the same sun that causes that beautiful glow also causes skin cancer and premature ageing. A sunless tan is a great way to get the benefits without the risks. Having the product airbrushed on will ensure that the results are even. Most salons offer an airbrush fake tan.

An airbrush fake tan is one that is created with a chemical reaction between the skin and a specially formulated product. The active ingredient in most of these products is DHA, a type of carbohydrate. It's often made from sugar cane or sugar beets. The DHA works on dead skin cells, so it only colors the outermost layer of your skin. Before you ask your beautician to apply an airbrush fake tan that contains DHA, apply a little bit of the product to your skin to ensure that you won't have an unexpected allergic reaction.

For the product to work, you need some dead skin cells for the DHA to react with. For this reason, it's best not to remove these cells through exfoliation before getting an airbrush fake tan. You may want to get rid of loose skin cells, though, to ensure that your airbrush fake tan will be even.

Hair removal also exfoliates the skin. However, rather shave, wax or apply hair removal cream ahead of the salon session. If you wait until afterwards, your airbrush fake tan won't last as long.

It's important that your skin is completely free of lotions, creams and other beauty products before you let the beautician apply the airbrush fake tan. Skin products create a barrier so that the DHA cannot reach the skin cells it's supposed to color. However, you should apply creams to the parts you don't want tanned, like the soles of your feet, to create a more natural-looking result.

For the procedure itself, you can wear what you'd like to, whether it's a swimsuit or nothing at all. Remember that if you wear a swimsuit, you'll be left with tan lines. It's also good to remember that DHA reacts with certain fabrics and won't only stain your clothes but will also affect your airbrush fake tan. For this reason it's best to wear loose-fitting clothing afterwards and avoid wearing a bra for a couple of hours.

The reason why sweating can mess up your new airbrush fake tan is that the product needs time to develop your new skin color and water will stop the process. Instead of a liquid deodorant, use talcum powder to keep your skin dry and sweat free. Stay out of the rain and wait at least eight hours after you've had the airbrush fake tan applied before you take a shower or go for a swim.

To make your airbrush fake tan last longer, avoid exfoliating your skin. Even a washcloth can remove dead skin cells so use your hands and a gentle cleanser instead, especially during the first post shower after getting your airbrush fake tan. Keep your skin moisturized and remember that just because you now have a healthy glow, it doesn't mean that you can skip the sunscreen.
